Considerations for Remote Teaching
The move to remote teaching will cause unique challenges for students with academic accommodations. Please consider the following:
- Most assistive technologies will not work with lockdown browsers (used for proctoring tests).
- Time for timed quizzes will need to be extended for students with this accommodation.
- Uploaded documents need to be text-based for assistive technology access.
We recommend choosing tools and designing teaching strategies with the varying needs of students in mind. There are several resources to support you and your students in teaching and learning:
- The Accessibility Resources course in Canvas provides instructions for making accessible documents, content, and videos.
- You can extend time allowed for timed quizzes in Canvas for students who need additional time for testing.
- The Office of Accessibility and Disability Resources can provide additional support if you have questions about accommodation needs for specific students.
